This checklist is ordered by when things need to happen rather than by category, so you can see what is already late. The change-of-address and utilities sections are the ones people forget.

- Book time off work for moving day
Four weeks before
- Order boxes, tape and bubble wrap
- Start packing anything you will not need
- Book a parking permit or lift for the moving van
- Arrange mail redirection
Change of address

Moving day
- Keep a box of essentials with you, not on the van
- Photograph the meter readings
- Check every cupboard, loft and shed before you lock up
- Hand over or collect the keys
- Photograph any existing damage in the new place
